Sir Winston Churchill was once asked to address his alma mater in a commencement speech. He had become quite a legend by this time due to his courage and confidence during World War II.
The auditorium was overflowing with graduating students,
parents, dignitaries and quests. He arrived with his classic top hat, coat,
stogie and cane. After an introduction, including a long litany of his
accomplishments, he slowly made his way to the podium.
Looking over the students, intensity came over his
countenance. He leaned forward and gave the shortest speech those students ever
received.
With a tone that reflected the character of both warrior and
diplomat, he said, “Never, Never, Never give up!” Taking a deep breath, he
repeated with greater volume, “Never! Never! Never give up” He turned, put on
his top hat and coat, took up his cane, picked up his stogie and left.
We’ll all be faced with battles, and when the battles are
over, the critics will begin. But never give up! You’ll all be faced with

up! You’ll want to, no doubt. But the only way the devil can defeat you is if
you give him permission to do so. Don’t you do it! The game’s not over until
God says it is!
